Recently missing: Emmilee Risling

What makes a missing person’s case go viral? Is it having the perfect victim: a sweet-faced, innocent person with a bright future ahead of them? Or maybe its the mystery, an intriguing case with enough clues to almost be able to solve it?

Emmilee Risling, isn’t the “perfect” victim. Her disappearance, like many isn’t scattered with clues to lead us along. But still, she deserves to be found and her family deserves answers.

Emmilee was reported missing October 14, 2021, last seen on the 11th. To date, her case has received very little coverage.

Emmilee is a 32 year old mother. But at the time, she was going through alot. In September of this year she, was arrested at Hoopa Valley Tribal Cemetery after there was a report of a nude female standing next to a fire which had grown out of control . When police arrived, she was still naked, next to the fire. Wildlife personnel extinguished the fire, but Risling was booked for arson and indecent exposure.

According to friends, she had been booked repeatedly recently. Her friends and family, concerned with her mental health, were trying to find help, but felt as if they were hitting brick walls because of how the correctional system is set up. After one of her recent arrests, her family thought she should be detained, to help address her mental issues. However, she was released, just to quickly be picked up again. Instead of going to jail, which should have happened due to the infraction, the officer dropped her off with a responsible adult. Her family feels that if she was kept in police custody, she may not have gone missing.

Risling is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe.  Indigenous women are murdered at a rate 10 times higher than all other ethnicities. It is the 3rd leading cause of death for women so any missing person is an urgent matter.

Emmilee Risling is Native American, with a dark complexion. She has short brown hair and brown eyes. She is around 5 foot 2 inches tall and 160 pounds.

Anyone with information should contact the Humboldt County Sheriffs Department at 707-445-7251.
